Encounter Student Ministries 2017 Report

At Encounter Student Ministries, we want students to have an encounter with Jesus Christ and build a relationship with God that will carry on long after high school. We want to cultivate a belief in God, His word, and His promises. Our goal is to make disciples who make disciples and equip them in their call to spread the Gospel. We emphasize this through a little thing we call L.A.P. Learn the word of God, Apply the word of God, Preach the word of God. We also want students to feel like they are part of a family, and give them opportunity to benefit their schools, community, and the Kingdom.

We have assembled an all-star team to help accomplish our vision. Myself, Pastor Odessa, Caleb Osborn, Frank and Sharee Gatto, and our newest edition, Erica Bertram, have all done a great job of being more intentional with every interaction that we have with students. I believe that students feel important here. They know they are loved and that we care about their future. We have proven this through the time we spend with them. We try our best to be at their games, concerts, plays and anything else they invite us to. We have had as many as 21 students come to the church to eat lunch with us, we take them to dinner, we invite them over for s’mores and games. We love spending time with students. Best of all, we have 11 students going through discipleship with youth leaders. They will be learning things such as, what it means to be a follower of Jesus, how to have healthy relationships, and even how to handle finances. The leaders of Encounter Student Ministries are making a difference in the lives of students.

The hard work and dedication of our leaders is paying off. Multiple students have accepted Jesus Christ as their savior in 2017. We have baptized students and they are hungry for more of what God has for them. Students have come to us asking for Bibles and devotionals that they can study throughout the week. Of course, we hooked them up! Again, we have 11 students going through discipleship with leaders, of their own free will! These are students that put in extra time and effort to grow more like Jesus. Many of them don’t even have parents who are believers. The growth in or students is the greatest indicator that God is moving here. Even parents are reporting positive changes in their kids.

As we developed our discipleship process, toward the end of the year, called The Do More Project, we also developed a website called thedomoreproject.com. This website has a simple Gospel message and will include regular blogs from the leadership of Journey Church. This has been designed as a tool to help students and adults share the gospel with people. The website directs them to Journey Church and gives them a way to get in contact with the pastors so we can help them along in their faith journey.

We ask that you continue to pray for Encounter Student Ministries. Pray for a move of the Holy Spirit, pray for wisdom and guidance, pray for successful ministry through our students, and pray that we are able to reach our students unsaved parents.

Thank you for your prayers and support!
